Life at the/down bottom the barrel means/feels/sounds like you're always facing/dealing with/struggling against some serious crap. You're constantly/always/forever scrambling/hustling/fighting to just stay afloat/keep your head above water. It can feel/look/sound like there's no hope/you're stuck in a rut.
But/Yet/Although, there's always a reason to keep going. Even at the bottom, you can build resilience. It might take time and effort/grit/determination but things will eventually get better.
Total Fail
Dude, this mission/endeavor/project was a total flop/disaster/catastrophe. I mean, it's not even funny. Things went so badly/wrong/horribly that I wouldn't even joke about it/dare tell anyone/recommend it to my worst enemy. At this point, I'm just pissed off/frustrated/defeated. My plan was rock-solid, but something always goes wrong/happened out of nowhere/just didn't work.
